This month has been busy - hence the tardy newsletter. I had my first website attack. I can’t know if it was random or targeted but I am grateful to my hosting provider for catching it early and cutting off access. It took me some extra steps to get things back up and running and I’m grateful backups were at the ready.

At a No Kings rally, a speaker said something that's been echoing in my mind.
|
|
He talked about how the gains we've inherited—worker protections, marriage equality, secular governance, voting rights—were won through generations of protests, activism, and exhausting work. For decades, we've been reaping the benefits of that toil. Sitting in the shade of trees planted by others. But now, he said, it's our turn to sow. To do the hard work so that one day, our children may reap.

Authoritarianism and revolutions, darkness to light, and the tipping point when it all comes together, have been on my mind. I always find the words of Thomas Paine to be a beacon of hope. This is a piece I made this year while I was exploring an idea. I started with this layered mixed media piece in the studio - I was trying out some new watercolor pencils and wanted to see how this watercolor paper would perform in my cutting machine. It’s hanging on the wall above my monitor as I type this. Like most art, my work is iterative. I rarely get it right the first time but building on trials and learnings is how I work.

This is my most recent evolution, a serving tray featuring a sunrise gradient! I should have it available in about a week - you are welcome to preorder now! It's a lovely piece to share around your holiday table.

We have it in our power to being the world over again was included in Thomas Paine's pamphlet, Common Sense. It was a call to action and statement of hope for the future. Never have those words or that sense of hope and fortitude felt more necessary.

We have it in our power to begin the world over again. This Thomas Paine quote has been a daily motivation for me. Thomas Paine inspired the American people, shaped public opinion, and garnering support for a revolution with his pamphlet, Common Sense. Let this fuel you to action during these fraught times.
