Mark your calendars! I'm going to be a guest on the popular Godless Granny YouTube channel on
Saturday, May 18 at 1:30 Pacific | 3:30 Central | 4:30 Eastern. We'll be going live to discuss grief for atheists, so you won't want to miss this helpful discussion. Now, let's dive into the convention recap:

American Atheist National Convention

My workshop at the American Atheist National Convention, Coping with Loss: A Nonbeliever's Guide to Grief, was standing room only! I was truly honored by the incredible turnout for such an important topic.
If you represent a secular organization interested in booking me for a talk on my book "Grief for Atheists" or this workshop, feel free to reach out. You can find my book at most online retailers.

Freethought Society

One of the convention highlights was getting to connect with the fantastic folks at the Freethought Society booth right next door! Founded in 1993 by Margaret Downey, this organization advocates for the separation of church and state while promoting critical thinking and science education.
If you haven't heard of a Freethinker, you are not alone! They are among the constellation of non-believer groups. Freethinkers started getting a lot of traction in the US in the 1800s. Freethinkers often use a pansy as a symbol.
Thomas Paine (1737-1809) is among the freethinkers in US history. Some of Thomas Paine's radical ideas included social security for the poor and elderly, abolition of slavery, and universal basic income. His pamphlet, Common Sense, was a big motivation for the Revolutionary War.
One of Thomas Paine's most famous quotes is, "the world is my country and to do good is my religion." Thomas Paine did not hold back his opinions writing, "All national institutions of churches, whether Jewish, Christian, or Turkish, appear to me no other than human inventions, set up to terrify and enslave mankind, and monopolize power and profit."
