Hi friends!

I celebrated Maurice Hillman’s birthday this month with the extra special news that we have a new mRNA vaccine for flu available this year. The data indicates it provides more robust protection than the regular vaccine for folks in the 50-64 age range. But, even cooler, it can be produced more quickly, allowing us to include more accuracy in strain selection based on the most recent flu variants. Until we get a universal vaccine this seems like a great advancement. Oh, yeah, and it doesn’t require eggs to produce. Maurice would be so proud!
(This is not to ignore the devastating effects of the anti-vaccine campaigns that have resulted in many preventable deaths, but to shed a little hope that scientific progress forges on, even in dark times.)
P.S. Did you know the MMR vaccine still uses a strain he collected from his daughter, Jeryl Lynn?

Over the last several weeks, I did a series of organic concentric shapes in my art journal. I find this a meditative way to create and explore gradients and palettes. I'm bringing those together with a new wall art collection celebrating the virtues of skepticism and I am so excited to share it!
