What is an Advanced Reader Copy?

Advanced Reader Copies (ARCs) are a late draft version of a book that are distributed by the author before a book is released in exchange for reviews with your preferred online retailer. The ARC Team is an important part of making sure a book is discoverable in retailer searches.

ARC reviews may be used to market the book and build social proof.  More importantly, your reviews help others in our community find this book, and decide if it is right for them.

As I have worked through the book publishing process, (and learned about categories and BISAC numbers, etc.) I have found that atheist and secular are neither consistently nor well represented in book categories in the publishing industry.  This makes it even harder for people in our community to find resources like this because they may be scattered across categories of religion, self-help, or social science.

Joining the ARC Team is a free and easy way to support more atheist content and ensure it is discoverable by others in our community.

How Does It Work?

Your Advanced Reader Copy material will include an ebook and a PDF printable with all of the journal opportunities and activities. This book will also be offered in print as part of a care package for a person experiencing grief.

  1. Download and read the book. The file format is EPUB and will load on any ereader. If you do not have an ereader, you ca still participate. There are several applications that will load an EPUB file on your desktop. Calibre is one I have used. It is free ana available on MacOS, Windows, and Android.
  2. Write a thoughtful, honest review.
  3. Share your review when the book is released on Thursday, March 28. (is that just before Easter weekend, why yes, it is!)
    • I will send an email reminder to share your reviews the week the book is release.
    • There are a few ways to share your review. Grief for Atheists will be available on Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Apple Books and several other platforms. You can also leave a review on GoodReads. For Amazon, there are two ways you can leave a review. there are two ways you can leave a review. The first is a Verified Purchaser. That means you bought the item through the Amazon platform and have spent at least $50 on Amazon in the last 12 months. Amazon and buyers find these reviews most valuable. When the book launches, I will have the ebook priced as low as possible, likely 99 cents.
You will not be able to leave a review until the book is officially release, but you will have time to read it and formulate your thoughts. I will include those details on the reminder email.
